Event: «Old textiles as raw materials»
All over the world, clothing is produced in huge quantities and used rapidly by consumers. This results in extensive environmental pollution and millions of tonnes of discarded used clothing. In an effort to preserve natural resources and protect the environment in the long term, the reuse and recycling of old textiles are therefore on the increase alongside the promotion of sustainable production.
Martin Böschen (TEXAID CEO), Dr. Christian Weilach (Global R&D Pulp and Biorefinery Technology, Lenzing AG) and Markus Moosmann (head of the waste management department of the city of Schlieren) gave presentations and chaired discussions on the practice and development prospects of the professional collection, sorting and recycling of discarded textiles at the TEXAID sorting facility in Schattdorf (Canton of Uri).
